The Committee requests that it be provided without delay with the list of individuals deemed "suspect" and subject to arrest or transfer to the police.
This document testifies to the strengthening of political and police surveillance in Paris in the days following the execution of the King, as the Convention increased the resources devoted to the search for individuals considered "malicious" or hostile to the Revolution.
"The extraordinary measure taken last night to apprehend the malicious individuals who were daily infesting the former Palais-Royal, the House of Equality, must have resulted in several arrests. The Committee of General Security and Surveillance invites you to send it without delay the list of persons whom you have deemed suspicious and whom you have therefore deemed necessary to send either to the municipal police or to the correctional and security police."
Eight members of the General Security Committee signed:
François Chabot (1756-1794), guillotined with the Dantonists
François-Pierre INGRAND (1756-1831)
Pierre-Joseph DUHEM (1758-1807)
Louis LEGENDRE (of Paris) (1752-1797)
Louis-Marie Bon Montaut, known as MARIBON-MONTAUT (1747-1842)
Claude BASIRE (1764-1794), guillotined with the Dantonists
Joseph-François ROVÈRE DE FONTVIELLE (1748-1798)
Marc-David Alba, known as LASOURCE (1763-1793), guillotined with the Girondins
Signatures from Chabot and Lasource are rare.
