"I send you the picture you wished to have for your exhibition - and also the landscape I spoke to you about. I hope you will find a good place for it and sell it if possible should any offer be made for it ; be so kind as to let me know. I have one or two small sketches not quite finished. I can send you if you would let me know the latest time I could send them [...]. If you will have places for them they will be quite small pictures. Trusting you will find a comfortable permanent home for "Lady Nithsdale" in Birmingham".
